Security Cameras
Keep watch over the things you care about—at home or at work.
Security camera systems are a smart way to protect important assets across the Kansas City metro—both Missouri and Kansas (including Leawood, Independence, and Liberty). Unlike national chains outsourcing their work to local dealers, we bring metro-wide expertise and a long-term presence, so we know the area's quirks and are here to respond quickly to service needs.
Shield Security designs and installs camera systems in homes and businesses with a focus on the right placement strategy, structured cabling, and a post-install walkthrough so you know exactly how to view, share, and export video. Cameras can also be integrated with alarm systems, access control, and smart home automation when needed. We offer camera installations across many verticals, including construction, residential, and restaurant applications.
Shield Security Offers:We have now added Thermal Cameras to our portfolio. These security cameras are ideal for protecting large outdoor areas from intrusion, including luxury home driveways in Overland Park, HOA amenities like pool areas in Independence, or busy downtown lots in Kansas City.
These cameras can be paired with 24/7 professional visual monitoring to help you respond faster and reduce false alarms, especially during off-season months with lower foot traffic. These are a huge step above traditional cameras that just passively record footage. When motion is detected, an alert is sent to our central station for review; staff verify what’s happening using live video and contact the appropriate authorities if action is needed.
If you’re comparing Shield to a national chain or dealer-network provider, the difference often comes down to continuity. With a local Kansas City–area team, you’re not handing off service to a rotating installer roster or remote-only support. We stay involved after installation with on-site help when needed, so your system keeps working as your property, staffing, and coverage needs change.

Camera resolutions have changed dramatically over the past 5 years. The vast majority of cameras in use across Kansas City, from Overland Park to Johnson County, are still recording at VGA resolution or less. You can now upgrade one of those cameras to 2.1MP for around $150, using your existing cables, and get 6 times the clarity. In fact, we are now upgrading some of our clients to 8MP and above. Most indoor applications are well served by 2 or 3MP cameras when the subjects are relatively close. For longer distances and larger spaces, 5.0 to 8.0MP cameras are often the right choice. We will design and install a custom system tailored to your surveillance needs for your Kansas City business or home.
With commercial and residential security cameras, it’s not as easy as plug and play. Professional design and installation matter for getting proper coverage angles, lighting, and long-term scalability.
Security Cameras
Video surveillance serves as an effective deterrent. Clear, visible cameras and signage help discourage unauthorized activity at homes and businesses across the Kansas City metro (MO & KS).
Perhaps the most important benefit of a video surveillance system is the ability of even just one or two security cameras to let you know that everything is OK at your Kansas City area home or business, even when you are away. You can use remote video surveillance to check on your pets, see if your children arrived home from school, or confirm a delivery has arrived.
High-quality security camera footage can identify a person involved in an incident. If you plan to use video as evidence, it is advised that signs be posted informing visitors of the presence of security cameras and 24/7 video recording.
Security cameras should be placed above cash registers to monitor the accuracy of checkout processes. The transactions from the Point of Sale (POS) systems can be overlaid onto the video surveillance footage—useful for restaurants and retail counters.
Security cameras play a vital role in monitoring businesses after hours. Motion-activated cameras alert our central station when movement is detected. Staff reviews footage, verifies activity, and contacts the appropriate authorities for timely action and protection—especially at warehouses, manufacturing facilities, retail centers, and HOA-managed amenities.
A Kansas City-area central station can verify an alarm before alerting the authorities to reduce false dispatches and to help authorities go to the right area of the property. This is done by pulling up live video from the security cameras when an alarm is received.
Security cameras protect businesses from fraudulent claims by recording incidents involving customers or employees. Proper camera placement and good lighting produce higher-quality video footage, providing clearer evidence to verify what actually occurred during alleged incidents—common needs for multi-family housing and shared common areas.
Security cameras can also protect Kansas and Missouri industrial customers by confirming that safety rules are being followed. For example, they can verify that forklift rules are being followed, that hard hats are being worn, and that access to certain areas is limited to authorized personnel.
Security cameras enable remote monitoring of products and machines, helping confirm that production and packaging processes are carried out correctly. This oversight supports quality control and can improve manufacturing efficiency.
